How to Make a Bijou Cocktail

Some people say that the Bijou cocktail is like a gin sour on steroids. It's got all the classic flavours of a gin sour, but with a little extra kick thanks to the orange bitters and the sweet grenadine. The name "bijou" means "jewels" in French, and it is thought that the name may have been chosen because the colours of the ingredients in the cocktail (red grenadine, yellow lemon juice, and clear gin) resemble jewels. She’s a popular choice at cocktail parties, and is often served as an aperitif before dinner.

Serve in – Nick & Nora’s Glass or Coupe Glass

Garnish – Lemon Zest (Discared) and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry

Ingredients

  • 25ml Gin (We Suggest Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin)

  • 25ml Rosso ‘Sweet’ Vermouth

  • 15ml Green Verte Chartreuse Liqueur

  • 1 Dash of Orange Bitters

Method

  1. Add the gin, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, grenadine, and orange bitters to your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice

  2. Shake well until the ingredients are well combined and chilled

  3. Strain the cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass

  4. Garnish with a cherry or lemon twist, if desired

Bartender’s Tip

If you're not a fan of gin, you can always try making a bijou cocktail with your favorite spirit instead. Just be warned: it might not taste quite as jewel-like as the original version.
